Monument to helicopter heroes to appear on Pskov Island

A monument to helicopter heroes will be erected in the city of Ostrov, Pskov region. Governor Mikhail Vedernikov discussed the project with Dmitry Bystrov, head of the Ostrovetsky Municipal District, during his working trip.

The Pskov news feed, citing the regional government, writes that the site where the monumental composition is to be installed is located at the entrance to the city and is clearly visible from the federal highway.

Bystrov presented the concept of the memorial. The main element will be a demilitarized copy of the new generation Ka-52 helicopter. Together with the head of the region, they discussed the implementation of the project, including financing issues.

In 2025, the first monument to helicopter pilots who died while performing special tasks was unveiled in the Ostrovets municipal district on the territory of a military unit. The opening ceremony took place on the Day of Remembrance of Pskov residents who died defending the Fatherland.

The agency notes that today, on July 21, Ostrovsky district celebrates the 82nd anniversary of liberation from the Nazi invaders.

On June 22, actions dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Mourning and the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War were held across Russia in memory of the dead.

Earlier in the day, Izvestia published footage of a requiem concert at the Rzhevsky Memorial dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow and the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War.
