Russia is ready to conduct its own nuclear tests if the United States resumes similar experiments. Andrey Klimov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council's International Affairs Committee, said this on Tuesday, July 21.

"As for our statements, they were made relatively recently, no more than two years ago, our leadership stated that if the United States starts practical experiments with nuclear weapons, that is, they will start conducting their own tests, then we are also ready to do the same," he said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The senator recalled that at one time these tests, together with the Americans, were stopped due to the fears of physicists after the Tsar Bomba test. Klimov stressed that Russia has the capacity to continue experimental work in practical terms, but deliberately does not do so, as it is aware of the global risks.

The senator also rejected the proposals of a number of experts to conduct a demonstration explosion. According to him, there are other ways to demonstrate Russia's determination.

"But we also need appropriate decisions at the highest level, because this is not some kind of show, as it seems, it is not a game in the literal sense of the word. This is really life, and in this life all decisions must be weighed taking into account the role and place of our country in the world," the politician concluded.
