There have been 309 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.

Over the past day, 309 accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 35 people were killed and 338 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on July 21 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 55 accidents involving pedestrians, seven people were killed, 53 more were injured in various degrees of severity. There are 17 children among the injured, eight of them were injured at pedestrian crossings, and nine more were outside their area of operation. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 16 occurred at pedestrian crossings, 39 outside their area of operation.

16 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which two people were killed, 17 more road users, including one minor, required medical assistance. Nine bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

In addition, 41 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 44 young road users were injured, including 12 child passengers and seven motor transport drivers. No dead children have been registered.

The State traffic Inspectorate reminded pedestrians that it is necessary to cross the roadway only in designated places, after making sure of safety. Attempts to shorten the path, cross the road outside the pedestrian crossing, or unexpectedly enter the roadway in front of nearby vehicles often cause accidents.

"Drivers, in turn, should be extremely careful when approaching pedestrian crossings, slow down in advance and be ready to come to a complete stop to provide an advantage to pedestrians. Special care should be taken near educational institutions, public transport stops, in courtyards and in places where people are crowded, where children may suddenly appear on the roadway. Mutual respect and strict compliance with traffic regulations remain the most important conditions for ensuring the safety of all road users," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy Head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
