Fraudsters disguised as HR specialists began to deceive students seeking internships.

The attackers, pretending to be employees of the supposedly HR departments of well-known enterprises, began stealing personal data from Russian students under the guise of applying for a "prestigious internship." This was reported on July 21 in the press service of the Moshelovka platform of the Popular Front.

"Scammers publish <...> fake jobs disguised as HR departments of large well-known corporations or popular career portals. Applicants are offered incredibly attractive conditions — high pay from the first day, flexible schedule and a guaranteed contract at the end of the summer," RIA Novosti's press service comments.

It is noted that fake ads are posted on free portals and platforms, as well as on various social networks. Those who responded to them later are being lured out of their payment details, arguing that they need to create a card where earnings will allegedly flow in the future. Two more pretexts under which information is required from trusted people are allegedly the need to undergo paid testing or purchase "corporate software".

Experts recommended that those who wish to find a summer internship check the information about it on the official website of the desired company. According to them, true employers will never require interns to pay for paperwork, testing, or other services. Also, real HR managers will not negotiate with an applicant for any position in their company anonymously on the basis of messengers.

Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, said two days earlier that another new fraudulent scheme was being identified in the country, according to which attackers impersonate dean's offices to gain access to students' accounts on the Gosuslugi portal.

Criminals usually contact their victims by phone. During the conversation, they assure that they need to put an electronic signature in the attendance records, and then they demand to dictate the code from the SMS. It is these numbers that are sent to the victims that allow fraudsters to log into their personal accounts and change their password there.
