Germany's ban on the participation of Russian children with hearing impairments in the European Youth Games for the Deaf is discrimination. This was announced on July 20 by Alexander Bochkov, head of the All-Russian Society of the Deaf.

"The ban on the participation of Russian hearing—impaired children in the European Youth Games for the Deaf is an act of discrimination based on nationality and race," he told TASS.

Bochkov stressed that sport should remain outside politics. According to him, the main principle of the competition is to bring together participants from all over the world. He noted that the division by skin color, language, place of birth and social origin does not correspond to the basic ideas of sports.

On June 28, the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB), together with 10 other countries, sent an appeal to the European Gymnastics Union, demanding to discuss the issue of banning Russians and Belarusians from performing with national symbols at European competitions.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on July 20 that Germany's non-admission of Russian athletes to the European Youth Games for the Deaf was a moral abomination. In her opinion, Russian athletes are being punished only because they represent a country that has not finished the fight against Nazism, but is leading it on all fronts.
