British Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice David Lammy announced his resignation on July 20 amid the formation of a new cabinet under the leadership of Andy Burnham.

"As a man from a modest family in Tottenham, it was the greatest privilege in my life to serve in the government as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Justice in the cabinet of Keir Starmer and the first black deputy Prime Minister of Great Britain," he wrote on his page on the social network X (former. Twitter).

In his farewell address, Lammy stressed that he was proud of the results achieved, among which he highlighted the restoration of relations with European allies after Brexit, continued support for Ukraine, deepening partnership with India and the Gulf countries, as well as recognition of the Palestinian state.

The former deputy prime minister added that the new head of government has every right to form his own team, so he himself is moving to the back benches of parliament, where he will continue to support the Labor Party and represent the interests of residents of his constituency.

Earlier in the day, Starmer announced his final resignation from the post of British Prime Minister, adding that he was "passing the baton" to Burnham. According to Starmer, in 6.5 years as head of the Labour Party, he managed to bring the political force out of the crisis after losing the 2019 elections, transform it and lead it to victory in the 2024 general elections.

Charles III accepted Starmer's resignation. He served in this post for two years and 15 days, ranking 43rd among all 58 prime ministers in the history of the United Kingdom.

After Starmer's resignation, Burnham became the new British Prime Minister. Buckingham Palace also announced that during the audience, the British monarch instructed the new prime minister to form his government.
