Patrushev introduced the new rector of Timiryazev Academy
On July 20, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev visited Timiryazev Academy, where he introduced the new rector Vyacheslav Lukomets to the staff and noted the university's flagship role in agricultural education.
Vyacheslav Lukomets, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, has become the new rector of the Academy. He is a manager and specialist in the field of agriculture, who has devoted many years to the development of agricultural education and science. The Deputy Prime Minister also thanked the previous head, Vladimir Trukhachev, a renowned scientist who made a great contribution to the integration of education with the real sector of the economy. Under his leadership, the university has strengthened its position both in Russia and abroad.
"Timiryazev Academy is the oldest agricultural university in Russia, the alma mater of thousands of professionals whose lives are very closely connected with the agro—industrial complex. The University confidently retains the title of the flagship of Russian agricultural education. The specialist training program built here is a good example of classical higher education combined with innovative methods. The university participates in various federal programs, it develops science, implements advanced projects, including in the field of biotechnology, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, breeding, and genetics. In the 26th year, the Timiryazev Genomic Center was established on the basis of our native academy. In addition, a large-scale modernization of the infrastructure has been carried out in recent years, and the surrounding area is being improved. You see all this and, I am sure, participated in it. The Timiryazev Center appeared, a sought—after educational and exhibition space. Of course, in many ways, all this is the merit of the team that was formed here under the very strict leadership of Vladimir Ivanovich Trukhachev. I would like to thank all of you for this. Nevertheless, time does not stand still. We must move forward and respond to the current challenges facing agricultural education and the industry. And I would like to tell you that an order has been signed appointing Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Lukomets, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, and a practicing scientist, as rector of the University on July 17," Patrushev said.
The Academy systematically trains a new generation of farmers: students enter the labor market not just with a diploma, but as self-confident specialists with a strong theoretical base and serious practical training. The effectiveness of this approach is confirmed by the figures: in a few years, the number of students has increased by 35%, from 12.6 thousand in 2020 to 17.2 thousand in 2026.
Patrushev said on May 29 that financing of the agro-industrial complex in 2025 exceeded 650 billion rubles, agricultural production increased by almost 5%, and the third grain harvest in the country's history was harvested. According to him, the domestic market is fully supplied with products, the guidelines of the Food Security Doctrine have been fulfilled. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that further development is related to the national project on technological food safety. Grain exports this season are expected to reach 60 million tons, while shipments of seeds and breeding materials abroad increased by 40%.
