The Tate brothers bloggers in the United States are accused of human trafficking. What you need to know

Bloggers Andrew and Tristan Tate have been arrested in the United States, and the United Kingdom is demanding their extradition. This is not the first attempt by the British authorities to bring to justice the brothers, who are accused of rape, human trafficking and the distribution of child pornography between 2010 and 2017. Tate's Business

• Before becoming a blogger, Andrew Tate was involved in selling advertisements for television, as well as kickboxing and martial arts. His victory in the British championship in 2009 earned him his first belt and the ISKA European Champion title, and two years later, the world champion. In total, during his sporting career, he became a four—time world champion in kickboxing, and his brother Tristan Tate became a two-time European champion in this discipline. • According to Andrew Tate himself, after retiring from sports, he realized that his main "assets" were beautiful girls. So, Tate said that he persuaded five ring girls to start a joint webcam business. The girls lived in shared houses run by Tate, talked to men for $4 a minute and told them made-up tearful stories to convince clients to transfer large sums to them. Over time, the scam grew to 75 participants, and Tate took half of the entire proceeds.

• During this period, Andrew Tate was charged in the UK with rape, which did not go to trial. To avoid the attention of law enforcement officers, he and his younger brother Tristan moved to Romania and continued their webcam business there. They recruited girls together, creating the illusion of a love relationship, promising cohabitation or marriage, and later through intimidation and violence forced them to create porn content. Romanian prosecutors suggest that the youngest of the brothers, Tristan, recruited at least 30 women in this way. The slaves were held in the Romanian capital district of Ilfov, among the victims were citizens of several countries. The press reported that women who were enslaved were stigmatized.

• In 2021, Tate opened a new business, Hustler's University (the English word hustler can be translated as "brusque person" or "pushy businessman"), which is positioned as an online platform for teaching e—commerce, marketing and cryptocurrencies. At its core, the project was a pyramid scheme. The monthly fee was $99, and participants had to recruit new students, for whom they received a commission. In fact, subscribers paid to work for Tate — they edited and published the blogger's video with an affiliate link, and for each new subscriber they received $25. In 2022, when Tate's accounts began to be deleted from major Internet platforms, the project was renamed The Real World, and the work of "students" who spread scandalous statements, helped Tate maintain his citation status on the Internet.

Investigation

• The first accusations against Andrew Tate were made back in the UK in 2016: one of the webcam models hired by Tate accused him of rape, and another of assault, but the police could not prove his guilt and dropped the charges in 2019. At that time, Tate was starring in the British reality show Big Brother, and there is a theory that the accusations were the real reason he left it.

• Later, the Romanian Office for the Investigation of Organized crime and terrorism became interested in the activities of the Tates after it became clear that the brothers were forcibly detaining a 21-year-old US citizen: the girl managed to inform her relatives where she was. In 2022, the Tate home was raided, the women were released, and the brothers were arrested in Romania on charges of involving women in sexual exploitation. Two Romanian women were detained along with them on charges of complicity. None of the detainees pleaded guilty. After three months in the detention center, they were placed under house arrest. The Romanian court returned their freedom of movement only in February 2025, but the case against the Tate brothers in the country is still not closed.

• Shortly after their release, the brothers moved to the United States, Florida, where criminal proceedings were opened against them. According to the attorney General of the state, James Utmayer, the Tates "publicly admitted" that they prey on women all over the world. On July 19, 2026, the brothers were arrested in the United States at the request of Great Britain, which is seeking the extradition of the Tates — a total of 59 charges were brought against them.

• In addition to the 21 criminal charges filed earlier, Andrew Tate is charged with seven counts of rape, three counts of organizing human trafficking for sexual exploitation and physical abuse, and 19 additional charges related to indecent images of minors and pornography. Tristan Tate has been charged with three counts of rape and sexual assault, and the same number of counts of human trafficking. The number of reported rapes increased from three to seven. Three of these women had already contacted the police in 2019, but the Crown Prosecution Service then decided not to press charges.

Business prospects

• Despite the fact that the brothers were arrested at the request of the United Kingdom, their lawyers are confident that the Tates will be released from custody and extradition will not take place. On the one hand, there are no obstacles to extradition — there is a corresponding agreement between London and Washington, the dual citizenship of the United States and Great Britain does not interfere with this process, and the serious charges are consistent with the principle of dual jurisdiction. But the decision on extradition is made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which puts the issue on a political plane.

• The Tates' ties to the current US administration may complicate extradition. Andrew Tate was one of the bloggers on whose air Donald Trump visited during his election campaign before being elected president of the United States. Trump's sons also expressed their support for Tate: Donald Trump Jr. took to social media to criticize the arrest of the brothers in Romania in 2022, and Barron Trump called Andrew Tate. However, the nature of the accusations makes Tate as toxic to the US president as his communication with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, which has already cost Trump the loss of trust of some supporters and a split in the Republican Party, so there is a possibility that he will not defend the Tate brothers.
