NYP announced the FBI's ban on investigating incidents involving ICE

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will no longer investigate cases involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This was reported on July 19 by The New York Times (NYT), citing sources.

"Federal agents across the country have been informed that the FBI will no longer investigate encounters with immigration officers...> FBI leaders across the country received written notification of this change on Thursday," the publication says.

According to the text of the message, the instructions provided indicated that the bureau would stop investigating allegations of attacks on employees of the Ministry of Internal Security. Previously, such cases allowed the collection of evidence incriminating the federal officers themselves.

Responsibility for investigating cases involving immigration officers is likely to pass to the ICE division, which will actually allow the agency to conduct checks independently, the report emphasizes.

A joint statement from the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Homeland Security denied that any changes were taking place. The agencies stressed that the FBI will continue to conduct investigations in accordance with current policy.

State House Speaker Ryan Fecteau announced on July 13 that one person was killed in a shooting involving ICE officers in the U.S. state of Maine. Fecteau added that the incident was being investigated by the Department of Public Safety, the Attorney General's Office and the state Police.
