The FSB spoke about the public's reaction to Dzerzhinsky's death 100 years ago
The death of Felix Dzerzhinsky, an outstanding statesman, founder of the Soviet state security agencies and head of the national economy of the USSR, caused a flood of telegrams of condolences from citizens and labor collectives of the country, including from Donbass, to which he paid special attention. Relevant materials on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Dzerzhinsky on July 20 were published on the website of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.
In the public consciousness, Dzerzhinsky's name is firmly associated with the bodies of the All-Russian Emergency Commission and the United State Political Administration (OGPU), but he was not only the creator of the special services, but also a major business executive. In 1921, he became head of the People's Commissariat of Railways and restored the transport system, and in 1924 he became chairman of the Supreme Council of the National Economy of the USSR. Under his leadership, metal production increased by 200% and mechanical engineering by 120%.
Among the published documents are letters and telegrams from those times on the occasion of the death of a manager from the cities of the Donetsk basin, from the working collectives of the Krasnoe Sormovo, Barricade, Proletarian factories, Moscow builders, metalworkers and railway workers.
The website also contains photographs of mourning rallies in Central Asia, publications of the newspaper Pravda in July 1926, and declassified OGPU orders expressing sorrow over the death of "the permanent leader, the vigilant guardian of the October conquests."
By a decree dated April 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin named the Academy of the FSB of Russia after Felix Dzerzhinsky. The educational institution received the honorary name in connection with the merits of its personnel in the professional training of personnel in the interests of the FSB authorities, the document clarifies.
