Sergey Nikolaevich Agashkov is a Soviet and Russian football player, midfielder, Master of Sports of the USSR (1987). For more than ten years, he played for Torpedo Moscow, where he twice became the bronze medalist of the USSR championship and reached the USSR Cup final three times. Early years and education

Sergey Agashkov was born on November 6, 1962 in Ashgabat (Turkmen SSR, USSR). From an early age, he became interested in football and entered the Turkmen Republican football school, where he studied from 1970 to 1979 under the guidance of coach Valery Nepomnyashchy. The player's height was 173 cm. In 1979, he began his professional career in the reserve team of Ashgabat Kolkhozchi in the first league, and from 1980 to 1984 he played for the main team of the club in the second league.

Club career

In 1984, Agashkov moved to SKA Rostov, where he spent two seasons. In 1987, he was invited to Torpedo Moscow, where the midfielder spent the best years of his career. Agashkov played for Torpedo until 1991, becoming a key player in the center of the field. Together with the team, he won the bronze medals of the USSR championship twice — in 1988 and 1991, and also reached the final of the USSR Cup three times (1987/88, 1988/89, 1990/91). At the end of the 1991 season, Agashkov was included in the list of the 33 best football players of the USSR (No. 3). In 1992, the footballer went abroad and played for the South Korean club POSCO Atoms, in which he became the champion of South Korea. In 1993, he played in Israel for Beitar from Tel Aviv, and in 1994 in Turkey for Ankaragujyu. In the same year, 1994, Agashkov returned to Torpedo Moscow (renamed Torpedo-Luzhniki at that time), where he played until 1997 and ended his playing career.

Appearances for national teams

At the international level, Agashkov represented the USSR national teams of different ages. In 1980, he played for the youth national team under the guidance of coach Boris Ignatiev. In 1985, he was invited to the USSR Olympic team, which was coached by Anatoly Byshovets. Agashkov did not play for the USSR national team.

Coaching career

After finishing his playing career, Sergey Agashkov stayed in football and switched to coaching. In 1997, he was a playing coach at Torpedo Moscow under head coach Alexander Tarkhanov. In 1999-2000, he worked as an assistant coach at Torpedo-2. From 2001 to 2006, he served as the head coach of the Torpedo reserve team, and was also a member of the coaching staff of the main team. In 2007, Agashkov passed the licensing at the Higher School of Trainers, receiving the category "B". As of 2024, he continues to work as a coach at the Torpedo Academy (Moscow), passing on his experience to the younger generation of football players.

Circumstances of death

The press service of the Torpedo Moscow club reported on July 18 that Agashkov died at the age of 63. It was clarified that the cause of death was a prolonged illness.
