The UN announced the use of electronic games by terrorists for recruitment

Terrorists have begun actively using electronic games to recruit young people. This was announced on July 18 by Alexander Zuev, Acting Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) for Counterterrorism.

"This problem still exists, but now terrorism is undergoing a serious transformation: it is moving into cyberspace, and attempts are increasingly being made to recruit supporters via the Internet," he told TASS.

According to him, the nature of terrorist threats is being significantly transformed — the focus is shifting from attacks on cyberspace. Recruitment is increasingly taking place via the Internet, and terrorists are technologically at a very high level, which allows them to achieve their goals.

Zuev noted that the UN has developed effective programs for Southeast Asia aimed at preventing the radicalization of young people. According to him, it is through electronic games that recruiters most often try to involve young people.

In cooperation with member states, the organization continues to develop measures to counter recruitment to terrorist groups via the Internet, the Acting UN Secretary General concluded.
