On July 17, American leader Donald Trump accused the Canadian authorities of deliberately abandoning the necessary measures to prevent fires that pollute the air in the United States.

"We hold Canada responsible for the fact that it improperly cares for its forests and shrubs, and that the United States is being unnecessarily invaded by polluted and unhealthy air," the Truth Social said in a statement.

According to the US president, Canada refuses to manage its forests, as well as garbage collection. He added that this is deliberate negligence, which leads to billions of dollars in losses for Washington.

On July 16, Reuters reported that the air quality in Toronto was recognized as the worst among major cities in the world due to smoke from forest fires. Residents were urged to limit their outdoor activities. In addition, the Toronto authorities canceled the FIFA fan festival and a party to watch the England—Argentina match due to poor air quality.
