Trump announced the identification of almost 300,000 non-citizens among US voters
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has identified about 278,000 registered voters who do not have U.S. citizenship. This was announced on July 16 by the head of the White House, Donald Trump.
"State voter lists and public records have revealed approximately 278,000 non-citizens who are registered to vote in federal elections. Since Democratic-controlled states have refused to provide their voter rolls, the actual number is actually much higher than that. However, even this limited analysis revealed more than a quarter of a million foreigners who were illegally registered to vote," Trump said during an address to the nation, a video posted on the White House's YouTube channel.
In addition, the president said that China allegedly gained access to the data of 220 million American voters in 2020.
Trump announced the immediate declassification and publication of crucial intelligence materials revealing serious vulnerabilities in the American electoral infrastructure. According to him, these data show that the existing system allows for hacking, exploitation and foreign interference.
The US leader instructed the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Ministry of Justice, the CIA and the FBI to establish the circumstances under which important information about the elections was hidden. He also called for those responsible for the cover-up to be dismissed and, if there are grounds, those responsible to be prosecuted.
The official representative of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, Liu Chang, said on July 16 that the diplomatic mission had strongly rebuffed the allegations in the American press about Beijing's alleged interference in the electoral processes. The diplomat stressed that China consistently adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states.
