The number of fatal earthquake victims in Venezuela has increased to 4,930

As a result of the double earthquake in Venezuela, 4,930 people died, more than 21,000 people are still in temporary camps. This was announced on July 17 by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez.

"4,930 people were killed, 16,740 injured, and 6,462 rescued," the Telegram channel said in a statement.

Over the past day, the death toll has increased by 101 people. According to the authorities, 17,907 people were left homeless. 21,210 victims are housed in 107 temporary camps.

The disaster damaged 856 buildings, 190 of which were completely destroyed. 2,278 foreign rescuers, 30,989 employees of various services and 31,745 volunteers are involved in the earthquake relief efforts, according to the Rodriguez report.

Why the restoration of the republic may take many years

On July 12, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that 22 tons of humanitarian aid had been delivered to Venezuela on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The cargo included basic necessities for residents affected by the earthquake.

The earthquake in Venezuela occurred on June 24. The epicenter was located 60 km northwest of the city of Valencia, as well as 28 km northeast of San Felipe. The earthquake was the strongest in the country since 1900.
