The original lightsaber of Luke Skywalker, which was used in the filming of the American movie "Star Wars", was sold at auction for $ 3.75 million. This was reported on July 16 by the Hollywood Reporter newspaper.

It is noted that this is the same sword that Skywalker used to fight Darth Vader in the 1980 film "Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back." The sale set a new world record for on-screen props from this film franchise.

The auction was held as part of the Hollywood & Entertainment Signature Auction at Heritage Auctions, which runs until July 17th. Initially, the lot was put up with an estimate of $1 million, while experts expected the final price to be no more than $2 million.

The previous record was held by the original X-wing fighter model used in the filming of the first Star Wars movie in 1977. In October 2023, it went under the hammer for $3.135 million.

The miniature flag of the USSR, which American astronaut Buzz Aldrin took on a flight to the Moon on the Apollo 11 spacecraft in July 1969, was sold at Sotheby's for $102.4 thousand on the same day. According to Sotheby's, the astronaut included the Soviet symbol in his inventory as a diplomatic gesture and a sign that landing on the moon was an achievement of all mankind.
