Nutrition expert Olga Anishenkova told whether it is possible to find food without carbohydrates. In conversation with aif.ru On Thursday, July 16, she noted that there are more and more people who want to lose weight, so along with the popularity of the keto diet, the demand for products labeled "carb-free" or "low-carb" is also growing. However, such inscriptions often turn out to be a marketing ploy.

According to the expert, there are practically no completely carbohydrate-free foods. Even meat and fish contain small amounts of carbohydrates. The exceptions are, for example, vegetable and butter, lard, water, as well as tea and coffee without additives. In addition, the labeling "low-carb" is not regulated by law in any way, so manufacturers can use it at their discretion.

Anishenkova urged not to focus on the labels on the packaging, but to carefully study the composition and nutritional value of the product. For a keto diet, foods containing about 1-5 grams of carbohydrates per 100 g are usually suitable. However, even meat and fish semi-finished products may contain starch, sugar, maltodextrin, dextrose, syrups and other sources of carbohydrates.

The expert stressed that the low carbohydrate content does not make the product useful for weight loss. For example, bacon contains almost no carbohydrates, but it is rich in salt and saturated fats, so if consumed regularly, it can contribute to weight gain and increase the risk of heart and vascular diseases. You need to evaluate the product as a whole, not just the amount of carbohydrates.

On July 16, chemist, nutritionist and expert in the field of personalized nutrition Irina Selivanova dispelled the myth that carbohydrates are the main enemy of a slim figure. According to her, carbohydrates remain the main source of energy for the brain and muscles. 360.ru . She recommends choosing the right foods: vegetables, greens, whole grains and legumes, writes RIAMO.

In April, nutritionist Mariyat Mukhina, in an interview with NSN, stated that the main recipe for weight loss at any age is a balanced diet, but before any changes it is necessary to consult a doctor. It is easier to lose weight at a younger age, when the metabolism is usually higher and the muscle mass is greater.

In February, researchers from Harvard University learned that limiting carbohydrates or fats alone does not guarantee a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease. It turned out that with a low-carb diet, the risk of cardiovascular disease can increase by 14% if a person regularly consumes refined carbohydrates.
