Sobyanin called Moscow the core of the country's creative economy.
In terms of the share of creative industries in GRP, Moscow is ahead of Shenzhen and has almost equaled Beijing, London and Tokyo. This was announced by the Mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, in his channel in Maks.
"Moscow is the core of the country's creative economy. The capital accounts for a quarter of all employees in this industry in Russia," wrote the head of the capital.
According to the mayor, the creative industries have become one of the fastest growing sectors of the city's economy. Since 2019, their share in the gross regional product has almost doubled, from 5.7% to 11%. The sector has caught up with manufacturing in terms of its contribution to the economy.
According to Sobyanin, the Agency for Creative Industries of Moscow is helping to develop the direction. Over six years, more than 430 projects have been implemented with its help, and over 22 thousand entrepreneurs have received support. Since 2023, with the support of the agency, entrepreneurs have signed about 200 export contracts with partners from more than 30 countries.
In addition, with the support of the Moscow Export Center, companies from the creative industries have participated in 45 events since 2019. As a result, 76 contracts were signed in more than 20 countries.
The mayor also recalled that a cluster of video games and animation has been formed in Moscow — the first stage of the Skolkovo creative cluster. In the first half of the year, two projects were released here. In total, about 20 projects are planned to be created in 2026, and the second stage of the media technology cluster will open in the near future.
