Interior Minister of Ukraine Ihor Klimenko refused to take up the post of Minister of Defense of the country. This was announced on July 16 by Verkhovna Rada deputy Maria Mezentseva.

"Klimenko resigned from the post of Minister of Defense," the Strana newspaper quoted her as saying.ua" in the Telegram channel.

Mezentseva also stressed that the vote on Klimenko's candidacy in the Verkhovna Rada would not take place on that day.

On July 15, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Mikhail Fedorov, confirmed his resignation with a farewell message. According to Ukrainska Pravda, the country's president, Vladimir Zelensky, announced the existence of a protracted conflict between the Minister of Defense and the Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky.

On July 14, Verkhovna Rada deputy Olga Vasilevskaya-Smaglyuk announced that Klimenko was the main candidate for the post of defense Minister instead of Fedorov. The Minister of Defense, according to the deputy, may take the post of deputy Prime Minister of the country.
