It is increasingly difficult for modern people to afford rest: free time often causes anxiety, and inaction is perceived as a waste of time. The reasons for such constant employment are related to brain function, upbringing and the peculiarities of the modern environment, crisis and family psychologist, oncopsychologist, supervisor Olga Sofyanova told Izvestia on July 16.

According to the expert, every completed task or new mark on the to-do list gives a person a small sense of satisfaction. The brain gets used to this stimulation and begins to demand it again, forming the habit of constantly looking for new activities. At the same time, being busy often becomes a way to avoid encountering your own thoughts and emotions. When a person stops, there may be anxiety, dissatisfaction, and questions about whether they are moving there.

"Being busy starts working like a painkiller: while I'm running, I don't need to feel it all," Sofyanova explained.

Another reason is related to education. Many people have been taught since childhood that their value depends on their achievements and usefulness. Therefore, in adulthood, rest may not be perceived as recovery, but as a sign of inactivity or lack of productivity.

The digital environment has an additional impact. Previously, people had natural pauses for rest and reflection, but now most of their free minutes are filled with a smartphone. According to the psychologist, applications are specifically designed to hold the user's attention for as long as possible.

The constant desire to be productive can lead to emotional burnout. The body needs a balance between exercise and recovery, and the lack of pauses increases stress levels, worsens sleep, and can negatively affect mental health.

Sofyanova noted that with a constant focus on results, a person risks losing a sense of self-worth beyond achievements.

"Stable support is when I know that I have value on my own, and not just when I produce and do something," the psychologist concluded.

According to the expert, the ability to relax without feeling guilty is an important skill and part of a healthy attitude towards oneself.

Psychologist Oksana Koryakina said that the constant desire to lie in bed can be associated with depression, anxiety disorders, the effects of injury or chronic fatigue. According to her, the desire to sleep longer after a hard week is a normal reaction of the body. However, an alarming signal is the situation when a person practically does not get out of bed for more than two weeks, stops taking care of himself, avoids communication, loses interest in his usual activities and feels constantly tired even after sleep.
