Reuters has learned about TikTok's age restriction test in Britain.

The British body Ofcom, responsible for supervision and control in the online space, has initiated an investigation into the TikTok social network in order to find out whether the administration of the resource violates the rules of age restrictions in the kingdom. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on July 16.

It is noted that Ofcom will check whether age authentication systems are available on the platform, as well as adequate mechanisms to prevent children from viewing malicious content.

At the same time, the owners of the social network deny violating anyone's legislation in advance, emphasizing that they strictly monitor the content's compliance with age standards and restrictions. The authors of the material also recall that in May Ofcom announced that TikTok had failed to offer effective measures to protect British children from harmful online content.

In June, TikTok agreed to reach a settlement with a 15-year-old teenager from the US state of Florida, who claimed that the platform had harmed his mental health. It is noted that the teenager, who started using social networks at about the age of eight, said he was used to them, which caused him to suffer from insomnia, depression and anxiety.
