Smoke from wildfires in Canada covers Toronto

The air quality in Toronto was recognized as the worst among major cities in the world due to smoke from forest fires, residents were urged to limit their outdoor activities, the Reuters news agency reported on July 16.

According to the newspaper, wildfires are raging in sparsely populated areas hundreds of kilometers from Toronto, spreading smoke over a wide area.

"According to Environment Canada, the air quality index for health in Toronto was 10+, which is classified as a "very high risk," the material says.

The Toronto authorities canceled the FIFA fan festival and a party to watch the England–Argentina match due to poor air quality.

The smoke reached New York City in the USA. There, local authorities issued a warning due to the fact that air quality has reached "unhealthy levels" and urged residents to "reduce intense physical activity outdoors and take additional breaks."

High risks of fires in forests have been recorded almost throughout the country, and an emergency regime has been declared in four regions.

The New York Post reported on July 15 that an air pollution warning was issued in New York after smoke from wildfires in Canada and the Great Lakes region began to cover the sky above the city. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached 151-200. The city authorities recommended that all residents stay indoors if possible and limit their outdoor activities.
