Forecaster warned of heavy rains in August

The expert did not rule out the possibility of heavy rains in the last month of summer: even a short rain lasting only 5-10 minutes can have significant intensity and be considered strong.

"Short—term precipitation is typical in August, although it may be torrential," said Tatiana Pozdnyakova. "For example, heavy rain can fall for only 5-10 minutes, and that's enough to classify it as heavy," she said.

The weather forecaster explained that the temperature background in the last month of summer will be slightly higher than normal, which will determine the short—term nature of the rains. Prolonged precipitation, which would last for a week or a decade, is not expected: such phenomena are extremely rare in August.

"Since the background temperature will still be slightly higher than normal, the rains will be short‑lived. This is not to say that for a whole week or, God forbid, for a decade. No, that's not supposed to happen. This happens extremely rarely," said Tatiana Pozdnyakova.
