UK: derailment of railcars in Perm Krai occurred due to soil erosion

The reason for the derailment of train cars on a stretch in the Perm Region on July 16 could be a local erosion of the roadbed, currently traffic on the emergency section of the railway is suspended. Wagons derailed on Sverdlovsk railway

As previously established by the Central Interregional Investigative Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the accident occurred on the night of July 16. Six cars of train No. 2314, carrying alumina, left the tracks on the 1566th km of the Kishert — Shumkovo section of the Sverdlovsk Railway.

The preliminary cause of the accident

By now, investigators have concluded that the cause of the emergency was unfavorable weather, which caused the canvas to blur and destroy. The rains also caused damage to one of the poles of the contact network.

According to the Perm meteorological station, on the night of July 16, instruments recorded 58 mm of precipitation. Forecasters noticed that another 18 mm had fallen the night before. That is, in general, the total precipitation amounted to the monthly norm of July — 76 mm.

Trains are directed to bypass the emergency area

As a result of the incident, no one was injured. Train traffic on the specified section in both directions has been suspended until the completion of restoration work.

The investigators began checking the article on violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of railway transport.
