Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas said on July 15 that the words of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda about Russia's alleged plans to strike at the republic's infrastructure had not been confirmed.

Earlier, Reuters reported that Nauseda, in an interview with the Baltic News Service (BNS), stated that Lithuania has intelligence information that Russia is allegedly planning attacks on the country's infrastructure.

"Our intelligence is really working, and we don't see any concentrations of Russian troops on our border. Currently, there is no such threat," the minister said in an interview with the LRT television and radio company.

Kaunas added that Lithuania is strengthening protection at the border due to alleged provocations, examples of which he did not provide.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on July 15 that statements about Russia's alleged preparation of attacks on the infrastructure of the Baltic states were another batch of "horror stories" designed to justify further militarization of the region. According to Peskov, such statements are used to create an image of the enemy in the face of Russia and to further build up NATO's military infrastructure in the Baltic states.
