Altai and Karelia became the regions with the highest number of crimes in six months

Most crimes in the first six months of 2026 were recorded in Altai, Karelia and the Sakhalin Region. This was confirmed on July 16 by the data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, which was reviewed by RIA Novosti.

In Altai, the figure reached 82.4 crimes per 10,000 inhabitants — more than 1.5 times higher than the average in Russia. In Karelia and Sakhalin Oblast — 79.3 and 78.8, respectively. The regions with high crime also included Chukotka, Kirov, Arkhangelsk and Tomsk regions.

At the same time, the lowest number of offenses was recorded in Kalmykia, Chechnya and Dagestan. Ingushetia, Vologda Oblast, Adygea, Krasnoyarsk Krai and Kabardino—Balkaria are also on the list of regions with low crime.

On May 3, it became known from the statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation that in the first three months of 2026, the highest deaths in road accidents were recorded in Tuva, Karachay-Cherkessia and the Jewish Autonomous Region. Primorsky Krai, Amur Region, Adygea, Ingushetia and Ryazan Region were also among the regions with increased mortality in road accidents. The lowest rates were recorded in Chukotka, Moscow and St. Petersburg.
