FT cited the reason for Greece's blocking of the 21st package of anti-Russian sanctions

Greece has opposed the adoption of the 21st package of EU sanctions due to the planned ban on the transportation of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) to third countries. This was reported on July 15 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing sources.

According to the interlocutors of the publication, Athens' position is related to the need to protect the Greek shipping company Dynagas, which belongs to tycoon George Prokopiou.

"According to the Equasis marine information portal, Dynagas operates 27 gas carriers. These include a third of the fleet of Arc7 tankers built with safety requirements in mind for operation in the icy Arctic waters near the Yamal LNG plant," the publication says.

European diplomats, in a conversation with the FT, noted that other EU member states had sacrificed their own business interests in order to impose restrictions on Russia.

Reach a disagreement: Several EU countries are blocking the 21st package of sanctions.

Due to a number of controversial points, it will not be accepted until the fall, experts say.

On the same day, the Reuters news agency reported that the EU ambassadors could not agree on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia. It was clarified that the European diplomats decided to keep the ceiling on Russian oil prices unchanged until July 23, when there will be a new discussion of sanctions. Currently, the price ceiling is at $44.1 per barrel.
