Swedish government to list hedgehogs in the Red Book for the first time

The Swedish government has decided to list hedgehogs in the national Red Book due to the sharp decline in the number of these animals in the country. This was announced on July 14 on the website of the government's press service.

"The government has decided to change the rules of the national nature protection and compile a new list of species under national protection. <...> The list of new species includes the hedgehog, whose numbers have declined over the past decade," the publication says.

The kingdom's authorities have updated the list of species under national protection. The new version of the document includes more than 230 titles instead of 300 in the previous version. The revision of the list showed a numerical increase in the presence of insects, lichens and fungi, while reducing the number of protected plants.
