The EC approved the use of € 10 billion from the loan to Kiev for the purchase of military equipment

The European Commission (EC) has approved a plan for Ukraine to use €10 billion from a loan of €90 billion for the purchase of military equipment and allocated it another €1 billion for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This was announced on July 15 by the head of this body, Ursula von der Leyen, during her visit to Kiev.

"Today I want to announce [the allocation of] €1 billion for drones," she said during the broadcast, a recording of which was posted on the Ukrainian edition's YouTube channelСтрана.иа ".

The head of the EC clarified that in addition, her department has already approved a plan to pay Kiev another 10 billion euros, which should be used to buy fighter jets and missiles. According to her, now the European Union (EU) is doing everything to help Kiev, cooperation with which is very important for it.

She reminded Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, who was present at the same press conference, that the associations she named had been investing large sums in ensuring his country's energy and economic stability for several years.

On the same day, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper announced that the EU had allowed Kiev to use another €6 billion from the allocated loan support for the purchase of components for UAVs. It was noted that the goods would be purchased in China, as most European countries currently cannot provide the Ukrainian side with the required volumes.

On July 12, Reuters reported that the German authorities had allocated €90 million for the purchase of 50,000 attack drones for the needs of Kiev. Auterion CEO Lorenz Mayer confirmed the financing of the deal by a European country and said that some of the cars have already arrived in Ukraine, while the rest will arrive by the end of 2026.
