In France, the case of Anna Novikova in Paris was called a trial of the truth.

Anna Novikova, the founder of the SOS Donbass association, is being tried in France for trying to convey the truth about the conflict in Donbass and the role of Western countries in these events. This was announced on July 15 by a French war correspondent working in the region, the editor-in-chief of the French edition of International Reporters, Christelle Nahan.

"As for this case, which is open in France, it is 100% a political case, and unfortunately, I do not expect a miracle from today's court," she told TASS.

According to her, the French authorities accuse Novikova of spying for Russia, but she called such allegations groundless. Nan stressed that the activist was engaged exclusively in humanitarian aid to the residents of Donbass and conducted media campaigns aimed at informing the French public about the reality of the fighting and the course of the special military operation.

Nan believes that it was the desire to reveal reliable facts about the conflict that led Novikova, as well as another member of the association, Vincent Perfetti, to come under the close attention of the official Paris.

The editor-in-chief summarized that in France and the European Union as a whole, there is a ban on expressing a position other than the official one. According to her version, the European authorities are afraid that citizens will understand the real situation with the allocation of budget funds that are directed to support Ukraine.

Novikova's lawyer Philippe de Vel told Izvestia on June 24 that a court in Paris had refused to release Novikova under judicial supervision. According to him, the defense was provided only with a court decision without a reasoning part.

On July 15, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Yana Lantratova, stressed that Novikova's alleged "guilt" lies in the fact that she is the founder and vice-president of the humanitarian organization SOS Donbass, which collects aid for civilians in Donbass. She also said that the French authorities apply double standards: sending weapons to Ukraine used to kill children is considered normal, and humanitarian aid to civilians in Donbass is considered a crime.

In turn, de Vel said that Novikova would be questioned at a court hearing in Paris. According to him, the Paris prosecutor's office opposed the release of the Russian activist under judicial supervision.
