- The dentist named the reasons for the refusal of aggressive teeth turning before prosthetics.
A few decades ago, preparing teeth for prosthetics was much more traumatic. To install bridges and crowns, even healthy tissues had to be heavily sharpened by a specialist. Today, this approach is considered obsolete. Kristina Savostyan, founder, medical director and dentist of the Florence dental clinic network, told Izvestia about this on July 20.
One of the technologies that has changed the possibilities of treatment is the dental microscope. It allows the doctor to detect hidden cracks, additional root canals and the smallest foci of inflammation that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Due to this, the specialist can remove only the affected tissues, preserving the healthy tooth structure as much as possible.
"It is especially important to work under a microscope in the treatment and repair of root canals, restoration of severely damaged teeth and other complex clinical cases. Modern techniques allow us to preserve many teeth that were previously considered hopeless," the doctor said.
However, the possibilities of dentistry are not unlimited. Removal remains the only option for vertical root fracture, severe periodontitis with severe bone loss, large-scale inflammatory processes and in situations where it is impossible to restore the tightness of the tooth.
According to Savostyan, after tooth extraction, implants, ceramic linings and ultrathin veneers are used today to restore the dentition, which make it possible to preserve significantly more of its own tissues compared to traditional prosthetics.
At the same time, the specialist emphasized that timely prevention helps to avoid complex treatment. Regular checkups, early stage caries treatment, professional oral hygiene, restoration monitoring and, if necessary, orthodontic treatment significantly increase the chances of preserving your own teeth for many years to come.
Savostyan noted that the success of treatment largely depends on the patient himself. Many people continue to postpone a visit to the dentist until severe pain appears, although it is early treatment that allows you to solve the problem using conservative methods and avoid tooth extraction.
The expert recommended not waiting for symptoms to appear, observing daily oral hygiene, regularly undergoing professional cleaning and following the doctor's recommendations after treatment. This approach, according to her, allows you to keep your own teeth healthy for as long as possible and minimize the need for implantation or complex prosthetics.
German Dyak, a dentist-therapist and orthopedist at the Atribyut clinic, said on June 29 that stress can negatively affect dental health. According to him, nervous overexertion often causes bruxism — involuntary clenching of the jaws or gnashing of teeth. This leads to enamel abrasion, the appearance of microcracks and hypersensitivity of teeth, as well as increases the load on veneers, implants, crowns and fillings.
