In the Indian state of Maharashtra, police have detained a 34-year-old blind man and his mother on suspicion of murdering their three-year-old son and attempted murder of their spouse. This was reported by The Times of India on July 15.

The incident occurred on the morning of June 29 in the village of Kingaon in Jalgaon district. According to police, a 27-year-old woman with 70 percent vision loss, along with her husband, mother-in-law and three-year-old blind son, came to the well to conduct a religious ceremony. During the ceremony, relatives pushed a woman and a child into the water. The victim survived by managing to grab onto a wooden structure inside the well, and waited for the help of local residents. The boy drowned.

Initially, the incident was considered an accident. However, during the interview, the victim claimed a deliberate attack. After that, law enforcement officers detained her husband and mother-in-law for questioning.

The woman claims that during pregnancy, her spouse's relatives urged her to have an abortion. They were afraid that the child would also be born blind. The decision to keep the pregnancy was the cause of constant conflicts in the family. A criminal case has been opened into the incident.

The New York Post reported on July 14 that a two-year-old child in the United States suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head caused by his four-year-old cousin. The injured child was urgently admitted to a hospital in Orlando, but doctors were unable to save his life.
