NBC estimated the cost of the US operation in Iran
The cost of the US military operation in Iran could range from $80 billion to $100 billion, which is almost three times the amount officially announced by the Pentagon. This was reported on July 15 by NBC TV channel, citing sources.
The channel's interlocutors, who are familiar with the internal calculations of the US defense department, said that the previously announced figure of $30 billion does not reflect the current situation. Acting US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Finance Jules Hurst admitted during a Senate hearing that these figures were formed several months ago and do not include the cost of eliminating the consequences of attacks on American facilities.
According to the Pentagon's closed estimates, the total cost of the campaign has increased dramatically due to the need for a large-scale restoration of the reserve of spent ammunition, replacement of destroyed combat aircraft and major repairs of damaged military bases in the Middle East. In particular, it will take about $1 billion to restore the infrastructure of the United States military facilities in Bahrain alone.
The Wall Street Journal newspaper reported on the same day that in the context of a new round of escalation of the Middle East conflict, both sides — the United States and Iran — have fewer options and time to achieve their goals and resolve the crisis itself. At the same time, it was noted that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, would prefer to resolve the conflict before the midterm elections in his homeland in November, as well as before oil prices reach a "painful level for Americans" again.
On July 15, the Iranian army announced its intention to continue attacking US bases in the Middle East "until the final victory." In total, since the violation of the ceasefire, the Iranian military has allegedly attacked American bases in the region six times with drones.
