The habit of constantly suppressing tears can lead to the accumulation of internal tension, chronic fatigue and emotional exhaustion. Irina Krashkina, Candidate of Medical Sciences, psychotherapist at JSC "Medicine", warned about this on Wednesday, July 15.

"The situation is more dangerous when a person has been forbidding himself any manifestations of vulnerability for years and does not allow him to admit his own feelings. In this case, emotions accumulate and manifest themselves in other ways," the doctor explained in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

According to her, people who often hide their feelings are, on average, more likely to experience increased levels of anxiety and emotional exhaustion, according to the website. kp.ru .

At the same time, Krashkina dispelled the myth that tears release stress hormones. Relief after crying is due to the fact that the emotion gets an outlet and the need to constantly control oneself decreases, as well as the fact that crying can be a signal to others about the need for support. Crying doesn't make everyone feel better — sometimes crying only increases feelings, especially if a person is left alone with a difficult situation, she added.

The therapist emphasized the difference between healthy control and harmful suppression. In the first case, a person understands how they feel, is able to talk about their feelings and accept support, and restraint is a temporary measure. In the second case, emotions cause shame, a person does not understand what is happening to him, and experiences are constantly accumulating.

She explained that to restore contact with feelings, you need to talk to your loved ones, keep a diary, engage in creativity and physical activity, and, if necessary, consult a psychologist.

Psychosomatologist Elena Vershinina said on June 25 that the feeling of a lump in the throat may be associated with suppressed emotions and strong feelings. 360.ru . According to the expert, resentment, fear, disappointment and other complex feelings can cause tension in the body. To get rid of it, a person needs to give their emotions a way out, for example, through tears.

In turn, Alexander Kolmanovsky, a psychologist and director of the Nasha Zhizn Center for Psychological and social counseling, told NSN that crying can lead to psychosomatic illnesses, since human emotions regulate the state of the body.

In January, Marina Mai, an expert on child development, spoke about the negative impact of overprotection on children. According to her, parents who take excessive care prevent their children from developing and cause fear of mistakes. According to the expert, the modern cult of "childhood without tears" can lead to a child's lack of independence.
