Monument to Chekhov to be erected in Khabarovsk

A park and a monument to Anton Chekhov will appear in Khabarovsk. The project was discussed in the Civic Chamber of the city. Mayor Sergey Kravchuk met with the initiative group.

According to the head of the initiative group of the Chekhov on Amur project, Yuri Berezutsky, quoted by IA AmurMedia, as part of the preparatory stage, the experts collected all the necessary documents. The City Duma approved the implementation of the project back in March. The sketch was developed by architects, teachers and students of TOGU, and the concept of the future public space was chosen based on the results of the competition.

The area of the future park will be about 500 square meters. m. Its main object will be a bronze sculpture of Chekhov with a height of 2 m. It will be created by local sculptor Roman Bosov. It will be based on the creative legacy of Vladimir Baburov, who became one of the inspirers of the idea of installing the monument.

The park and monument are scheduled to open on July 1, 2028. On this day in 1890, Chekhov left Khabarovsk on his famous trip to Sakhalin.

The organizers of the project will release a brandbook, prepare publications, and organize educational events dedicated to the writer's life and work. So, in the middle of August, a clean-up day will be held at the site of the future park. A commemorative sign with an information plate will be installed there.

Earlier it was reported that in Khabarovsk, a square with characters from Russian fairy tales will be set up on Kalarasha Street. In 2025, the project was supported by the majority of the city's residents during the voting. This year it is being implemented as part of the federal project "Creating a comfortable urban environment".
