- In the United States, they learned about Rubio's deletion of correspondence in work chats contrary to the rules
In the course of his work, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio used the automatic deletion of messages in public chats, which violated the established rules of procedure for officials of the American diplomatic corps. The Atlantic magazine pointed this out on July 15, citing an anonymous source.
It became known that after the leak of a chat on the discussion of strikes on Yemen in March 2025 was revealed, the US court asked the Secretary of State's office to provide evidence that the correspondence was not deleted.
The State Department has officially stated that Rubio uses special software to ensure that all messages are saved.
"But this rebuttal, written in the present tense, was less significant than it seemed. About two months later, Rubio changed the settings in the Signal chat to discuss administrative issues with other senior officials so that messages were automatically deleted after a set period of time," the article says.
A year earlier, the White House administration leaked correspondence from the officials' work chat discussing the need for strikes against the Houthis. A scandalous publication covering the topic was published in The Atlantic magazine on March 25, 2025. Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of the magazine, said that on March 11, he received a request to connect to the Signal officials chat from a user under the nickname Mike Waltz. Two days later, Goldberg received a notification that he had been added to a group chat called "Houthis small group."
On March 30, US President Donald Trump announced that he was not going to fire anyone from his team after the scandalous leak of messages from a group chat. However, in May, the American leader still fired his national security adviser Mike Waltz, whose position Rubio took.
