Sviridenko's Cabinet has become the shortest-lived in Ukraine over the past six years
The government of former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko has become the shortest-lived in the country over the past six years and ranked fifth in terms of the shortest working time since 1991. This was reported by TASS on July 15.
According to the agency's statistical calculations, Sviridenko's cabinet of Ministers worked for less than a year — from July 17, 2025 to July 14, 2026. In the history of the country, only four executive authorities functioned less than him: the cabinets of Leonid Kuchma (October 13, 1992 — September 21, 1993), Vitaly Masol (June 16, 1994 — March 6, 1995), Yuri Yekhanurov (September 2005 — August 2006) and Alexei Goncharuk (August 29, 2019 — March 4, 2020).
The decision to resign in order to update the country's political course was made by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. Local media attribute the cabinet change to the need to urgently strengthen preparations for winter amid acute shortages of electricity and gas, although the parliamentary opposition has been demanding the dissolution of ministers since the end of 2025 due to the corruption scandal surrounding businessman Timur Mindich.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced on July 12 that he plans to change the composition of the entire government of Ukraine and dismiss Sviridenko. He cited the country's preparations for the new winter and agreements with Kiev's allies on reconstruction as the reasons for the personnel changes. Sviridenko herself confirmed that she was leaving the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine. She has been working in this position since July 17, 2025.
Two days later, the Verkhovna Rada voted for Sviridenko's resignation, which means the resignation of the entire Cabinet of Ministers of the country. Now Denis Shmygal has again assumed the role of acting head of government. The remaining ministers remain in their posts and in their acting roles.
