Germany has charged a German man suspected of raping at least 58 women.

Berlin prosecutors have charged a 68-year-old man suspected of raping at least 58 women. This was announced on July 14 by BFMTV.

The perpetrator met the victims on the Internet, mixed sleeping pills into their alcohol, and filmed the crimes on video. It is noted that the women did not remember the alleged crimes and learned about them only during the investigation, when they were presented with video recordings.

"The prosecutor's Office has identified a total of 58 alleged victims. However, the initial indictment focuses on 22 incidents involving 14 women," the publication says.

The case also dealt with 36 other alleged cases of rape, the victim of which was one woman, not mentioned above. However, since these crimes were committed between 2010 and 2014, the proceedings against them were terminated upon the expiration of the statute of limitations.

The police conducted the first searches in the criminal's apartment in March 2025, but he was detained only a year later, in March 2026, when numerous video recordings were found on the seized media. Since then, the man has been in custody.

NBC News reported on April 8 that Rex Heuermann, a former architect from New York State, pleaded guilty to murdering eight women. The bodies of the victims have been found for many years in the Gilgo Beach area on Long Island. The investigation found that the 62-year-old man got acquainted with women who were engaged in prostitution, and then strangled them. The crimes were committed between 1993 and 2010. The killer disposed of the bodies in the Gilgo Beach, Manorville and Southampton areas, while some of the victims were wrapped in burlap.
