The doctor pointed out the area of influence of vitamin D
Ilya Barsukov, a senior researcher at the Department of Endocrinology, told us what vitamin D affects and what its preventive dose is.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Tuesday, July 14, the expert noted that vitamin D has historically been studied in connection with rickets in children and osteoporosis in the elderly, but later scientists discovered its effect on immunity, muscle tissue and cognitive functions. According to Barsukov, this is why the topic of vitamin D has become widespread, and the new recommendations will help determine when an analysis is really necessary and when it is given only at the request of the patient.
The expert noted that vitamin D deficiency is especially common in the nordic countries, including Russia, since the main source of this vitamin is its synthesis in the skin under the influence of sunlight, which is often insufficient throughout the year.
Barsukov explained that vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is more often used in medical practice, although both forms — D2 and D3 — are involved in the regulation of calcium metabolism. For prevention, 1000-2000 IU per day is usually prescribed, and higher doses are used only after examination and under the supervision of a doctor. He warned that a prolonged excess of vitamin D can lead to an increase in blood calcium levels, so self-medication with high dosages is dangerous.
The doctor also reminded that vitamin D promotes the absorption of calcium, so the recommendations for their intake are interrelated, but do not replace each other.
Endocrinologist Ilya Barsukov said on July 13 that vitamin D is necessary for calcium absorption. Therefore, taking calcium supplements without it may be ineffective, RT clarifies.
Dermatologist-cosmetologist Natalia Ryakhovskaya on July 9 in an interview with the website kp.ru She said that even when using SPF 50, the skin receives a dose of ultraviolet light sufficient for the synthesis of vitamin D. At the same time, the use of SPF products makes contact with sunlight safer.
In June, osteopath Vladimir Zhivotov warned about frequent colds and blurred vision with vitamin D deficiency. Zhivotov recommended paying special attention to the analysis of its level in the body, writes 360.ru .
At the same time, a study showed that even a sunny summer may not be enough to restore healthy vitamin D levels in vulnerable populations. Scientists have found that a significant number of people may suffer from vitamin D deficiency all year round without realizing it.
In May, Olga Ulankina, an expert physician, recalled that the main function of vitamin D is the absorption of calcium and maintaining bone strength. In case of vitamin D deficiency, bone density gradually decreases, NSN notes.
Earlier, nutritionist Alla Makarova told Pravda.Ru that the leaders in D content are fatty fish varieties: salmon, mackerel, sardines. Egg yolks, butter, and beef liver are equally beneficial.
