The head of Ukroboronprom, Smetanin, announced his resignation.
On July 14, German Smetanin, CEO of the Ukroboronprom state concern, announced his resignation from his post. The message appeared against the background of an explosion at an arms depot in the town of Vishnevoye near Kiev.
On June 11, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky admitted that representatives of Ukroboronprom had organized an ammunition depot in a village near residential buildings, despite completely opposite instructions.
"Today I am completing my work as General Director of JSC Ukrainian Defense Industry. I wish the new manager and the team further success," said Smetanin in his Telegram channel.
In the publication, he did not specify the specific reason for his resignation. However, the press service of the organization reported on July 12 that two heads of the state concern were dismissed after the incident. It was noted that violations of legal and security requirements had been identified.
On July 10, Zelensky warned that after an attack by the Russian Armed Forces on an ammunition depot in the city of Vishnevoye in the Kiev region, the state concern Ukroboronprom would be fired. He said that he had received information about the incident from the Security Service of Ukraine, the Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor General's Office.
On July 6, the head of the Kiev regional Administration, Nikolai Kalashnik, announced the threat of repeated detonation of explosive objects in Vishnevoye and urged residents not to be on the street. Evacuation points have been set up in the city. The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, noted that the Russian Army's retaliation strike on targets in the city was the most massive.
