Church prohibitions on St. Elijah's Day are not aimed at limiting a person's daily life, but at helping him avoid sin. This was announced by Priest Ilya Savastyanov in a conversation with Izvestia.

"On any given day, church prohibitions only concern that a person does not sin," he noted.

According to Ilya Savastyanov, church regulations are primarily related to the spiritual side of life and are designed to draw a person's attention to his actions, thoughts and attitude towards others.

On Elijah's Day, it is advised to observe moderation at the festive table, avoid overeating and excessive alcohol consumption. This is especially true for those who celebrate not only a church date, but also a secular holiday that falls on the same day — the Day of the Airborne Troops.
