One of the members of the organization "Artillery Preparation" (recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation), who were preparing to drop an improvised explosive device (IED) on a train carrying products for the military-industrial complex moving across a bridge in the Orenburg region, fully admitted guilt, two more partially. This was reported on July 14 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the hall of the Second Western District Military Court.

The defendant, Vladimir Bustard, pleaded guilty in full. Igor Sharnev and Alexey Shchepkin partially admitted their guilt. The other defendants refused to admit guilt.

During the trial, Alexey Demchenko, an employee of the Russian Railways company, requested that the case be returned to the prosecutor's office due to procedural violations, but the court refused this request.

According to the case file, the leader of the group of eight defendants was Vyacheslav Maltsev, who was arrested in absentia (recognized as a foreign agent and listed as a terrorist in the Russian Federation). The preparation for the crime itself was conducted from April to June 2024.

At that time, two employees of Russian Railways, Yuri Martyanov and Alexey Demchenko, provided data on gaining access to the vulnerability of railway infrastructure facilities in the area required by terrorists in the Orenburg region. Other members of the group, Alexey Shchepkin, Vladimir Drofa, Igor Sharnev, Svetlana Malakhova and Anna Radionova, were supposed to produce an IED and deliver it to the site of the future detonation.

Sergei Yakovlev, who had been supported in "Artillery Preparation" throughout the entire time, was supposed to carry out the explosion. The tragedy was avoided due to the identification of criminals by employees of the Department of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for the region and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

On June 22, the FSB Public Relations Center reported on the prevention of a train bombing in the Moscow region. Two people who were successfully detained had to commit the crime. It later turned out that the attackers were in cahoots with Ukrainian agents and acted on their instructions.
