- The Russian ambassador to Moldova called for an investigation into the drone incident.
The Moldovan Foreign Ministry must conduct a thorough investigation and provide evidence after the incident involving the downing of an alleged Russian drone in the south of the republic. Russian Ambassador to Chisinau Oleg Ozerov told reporters on Tuesday, July 14, after visiting the country's foreign ministry.
"We have requested additional information about this. The issue is new, it requires investigation. You need to understand the tracing, where this drone came from, along which trajectory, photo fixation, and so on. The usual data that we traditionally request in this regard," TASS quoted the diplomat as saying.
As Ozerov said, there are a number of questions about Chisinau's version of the drone found in the vicinity of the village of Kopanka in the Kaushan district. So, according to the Moldovan authorities, the device carried 40 kg of explosives.
"A heavily armed drone with explosives is falling and there is no funnel. If there was an explosive in there, then why didn't it detonate? When it hit the ground, it should have detonated," the ambassador said.
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova protested to Russian Ambassador Ozerov in connection with the discovery of an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on the territory of the republic. The drone was discovered on July 13 in the south of the republic.
On June 8, it was reported that the UAV that crashed and detonated in the Ogreyevsky district of Moldova was of Ukrainian origin.
