The psychologist told about the reasons for the desire to constantly lie down
The constant desire to lie in bed may be associated with depression, anxiety disorders, the effects of injury, or chronic overwork. Psychologist Oksana Koryakina told Izvestia about this on July 14.
Koryakina noted that the desire to sleep longer after a hard week is a normal reaction of the body. However, an alarming signal is the situation when a person practically does not get out of bed for more than two weeks, stops taking care of himself, avoids communication, loses interest in his usual activities and feels constantly tired even after sleep.
"This is an excuse not to accuse yourself of laziness, but to consult a doctor first to rule out somatic causes, and then to a psychologist or psychiatrist for a more detailed assessment of the condition," the specialist explained.
According to the psychologist, the desire to stay in bed all the time can be a defense mechanism. With prolonged stress, the nervous system begins to save resources, and even simple actions are perceived as too energy-intensive. In this case, a bed can become a way to avoid anxiety, emotional burnout, or experiencing a difficult life situation.
The expert added that outwardly such a condition may resemble depression, but one symptom does not allow us to draw a conclusion about the diagnosis. Similar manifestations occur in anxiety disorders, the effects of psychological trauma, chronic fatigue, and certain diseases, so it is important to assess a person's condition comprehensively.
The specialist called the gradual return of simple actions the first step towards recovery: getting out of bed, washing, eating at the table, short walks and other small tasks. With a prolonged decrease in activity, it is also necessary to exclude medical reasons, and, if necessary, consult a psychologist, psychotherapist, or psychiatrist.
On July 6, Irina Krashkina, a psychotherapist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg clinic), Candidate of Medical Sciences, reported that the constant return to painful memories can negatively affect not only the emotional state, but also physical health. According to the expert, memories play an important role in a person's life: they help to keep in touch with the past, draw conclusions from their own experience and form a personality. However, sometimes past events start to take up too much space in your thoughts.
