A tourist fell off a cliff and died on the Kuril Islands

A man died after falling from a great height on the island of Iturup. An accident investigation is underway.

The incident occurred on a Devil's rock 44 km from Kurilsk. According to SakhalinMedia news agency, the tourist fell off a cliff and suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. A 41-year-old man died on the spot.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations clarified that the tourist did not register his route, although this is a requirement for hiking in hard-to-reach areas. The exact circumstances of the incident are being established.
