Muscovites were offered to choose names for the MCD trains

Residents of the Russian capital were asked to choose names for trains of the EP2D and EP2DM series, which operate on the Moscow central diameters. The relevant voting has started on the Active Citizen portal, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. Among the suggested names are "Rook", "Starling", "Kinglet" and "Lazorevka", while the participants propose their own version.

As Sobyanin noted, millions of passengers who use the MCD and MCC trains are already familiar with the names "Oriole" and "Swallow". "We decided to continue this tradition and give our own name to the EP2D and EP2DM series trains, which also make up a significant part of the fleet," the mayor wrote on his personal blog.

The EP2D electric trains manufactured by the Demikhovsky Plant, which operate on all diameters of the MDC, are equipped with climate control, comfortable seats, places for people with limited mobility and bicycle mounts. "The modified version, EP2DM, is created entirely from domestic components. The train features an updated headcar design, improved seat ergonomics, seats with USB sockets and modern media screens in the cabin," said Sobyanin.

The interior of the EP2DM trains, which operate on the Yaroslavl line of the Moscow Railways, has been additionally updated. In particular, contactless equipment was installed in the bathrooms, and chargers for electric scooters were added in the bike parking areas, the mayor informed.

Sobyanin also recalled that trains on the four existing IDC diameters have been updated by 100% — 398 modern trains have been purchased for them since 2014. There is an active renewal of the train in the Yaroslavl direction — the share of new cars there now exceeds 30%. "Instead of the outdated series, 30 new trains have been delivered to the routes: 25 Ivolga 4.0 trains and five modified EP2DM electric trains. More than 60 more trains are to be purchased and delivered by 2030," the mayor said.
