The expert warned about the risks of popular summer workouts
Popular summer exercises and challenges on social media often lead to serious injuries due to lack of equipment. All the details are in the Izvestia article.
Why you can't copy bloggers
The algorithms of social networks promote spectacular videos that cause delight or surprise, but do not show the long-term training and medical permits of the authors. Such content creates the illusion of security, which causes users to repeat complex elements without a proper base.
Anna Kravchenko, head of the Teacher training and product quality Control departments of the LEVITA international network of ballet and stretching studios, stressed that the virality of the video does not guarantee the benefits of the exercise. According to her, such movements are often harmful and even dangerous for an unprepared person.
Injury-related trends
One of the most dangerous trends is considered to be extreme stretching, when people try to do the splits for several days through acute pain. Springy jerky movements and excessive pressure can lead to ruptures of muscle fibers and ligament damage.
Jumping on unstable surfaces, such as benches, curbs, and fitballs, also leads to injuries. At the moment of contact with such a support, the load on the joints increases, which threatens to damage the meniscus or dislocate.
"In practice, a sharp pain is a signal that the tissues are receiving excessive stress," Kravchenko said.
The problem of mass challenges
Social media marathons calling for 1,000 squats or lunges a day often result in overloading joints and tendons. The body does not have time to recover, and due to fatigue, the exercise technique quickly deteriorates.
The specialist notes that by the end of a large number of repetitions, the knees begin to go inwards, and the back is rounded. This makes even basic movements dangerous for the spine, although the video shows only the initial, aesthetic part of the workout.
Rules for safe training
To maintain health, it is important to choose exercises that match the level of training and perform them without pain. Simple and regular classes under the supervision of a trainer are more effective than any entertainment trends.
"Social media can really inspire sports, introduce new directions, and motivate people to move more. But training sessions should be chosen not by the number of views, but by their safety and compliance with the level of training," Kravchenko noted.
