The media reported on the arrest of former Iranian President Ahmadinejad for links with the Mossad

Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is under arrest by the intelligence unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) because of his contacts with the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. This was reported on July 13 by The New York Times (NYT), citing sources.

"Ahmadinejad is in the custody of the IRGC intelligence unit, under house arrest, as Iran has learned about many of his contacts with Israel," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, the Mossad conducted covert work during the year to establish contacts with the ex-president of Iran, not excluding his possible role in the political future of the republic.

It is clarified that Israel allegedly funded the press secretary of the ex-President of Iran, Akbar Javanfekr. According to the newspaper, after the strike on Tehran on February 28, Ahmadinejad was taken by Mossad officers to a safe place, but later left it under unknown circumstances.

The NYT reported on the same day that Israeli intelligence services had been planning an operation for several years to bring in the former president of Iran. It was clarified that in recent years, according to American officials, Israel secretly paid for Ahmadinejad's housing and foreign trips, and Israeli operatives met with him abroad several times, including during his trips to Budapest.

The newspaper also reported on May 19 that at the very beginning of the war with Iran, Washington and Tel Aviv tried to release Ahmadinejad from house arrest in order to put him in power. Israel attacked the apartment where the ex-president was, but the operation failed. Ahmadinejad was wounded, but survived and became disillusioned with the idea of a change of power.
