In Russia, 386 thousand people turned to doctors due to tick bites.
Since the beginning of the tick activity season, 386 thousand people have applied to medical institutions for help, which is 21.3% less than in 2025. This was announced on July 13 by the press service of Rospotrebnadzor.
"In the Russian Federation, more than 3.5 million people were vaccinated against tick-borne viral encephalitis in 2026. Since the beginning of the tick activity season, 386 thousand people have applied to medical institutions with complaints of bites, which is 21.3% lower than in 2025," RIA Novosti quoted the agency as saying.
The largest number of appeals was recorded in the Magadan region, the republics of North Ossetia, Dagestan, Mordovia, Crimea, as well as in the Kamchatka Territory. To reduce the risks, the agency's specialists carry out acaricide treatments of territories. At the moment, over 196.1 thousand hectares have been cultivated, which covers 98.8% of the planned volume.
The ministry stressed that vaccination remains the most effective measure of protection against the disease, but recalled the need to comply with the rules of individual safety when visiting forests and parks.
On July 10, Natalia Kolomiets, a doctor at the DNCOM laboratory, a general practitioner, and a pediatrician, spoke about common mistakes after a tick bite. According to the expert, after a bite, many people focus on their well-being and do nothing if there is no fever, weakness or characteristic redness around the area of contact with the insect. The doctor warned that in the early stages, some diseases that these bloodsuckers carry may occur without pronounced symptoms, and called this approach wrong.
