Uterine fibroids, endometriosis, endometrial polyps, ovarian cysts, and precancerous changes in the cervix can develop for a long time without symptoms and are detected only during a routine checkup. Yulia Chernysheva, a gynecological surgeon and laparoscopic surgeon at Olympus Clinics, told Izvestia about this on July 15.

"In gynecology, the absence of symptoms is not always a sign of health, some serious pathologies can grow asymptomatically for years without causing a drop of discomfort. A woman lives a normal life, makes plans, while a disease develops inside her body," the specialist noted.

According to her, one of the most common hidden pathologies is uterine fibroids. If the node grows towards the abdominal cavity, it may not affect the menstrual cycle for a long time and not cause bleeding. Endometriosis is also often asymptomatic, which gradually reduces the ovarian reserve and causes infertility, endometrial polyps and some types of ovarian cysts, which a woman learns about only after complications develop.

Cervical dysplasia, which occurs against the background of the human papillomavirus, is particularly dangerous. As the doctor explained, the disease does not cause pain or bleeding and can go unnoticed for a long time, whereas without treatment it can turn into cervical cancer. Symptoms usually appear in the later stages of the disease.

In order to detect such pathologies in a timely manner, the specialist recommended undergoing a preventive examination by a gynecologist at least once a year. According to her, the examination should include an examination in a chair, liquid cytology (Pap test), analysis for oncogenic HPV types, as well as ultrasound examination of the pelvic organs, which allows detecting fibroids, polyps and cysts in the early stages.

The doctor noted that most of these diseases are successfully treatable with timely diagnosis. Polyps are removed by hysteroresectoscopy, fibroids and cysts can be operated laparoscopically while maintaining reproductive function, and treatment of cervical dysplasia helps prevent the development of cancer.

"Remember: real self—care is not when you "already feel like it" and get sick. Care is to come to the doctor when you feel great, in order to maintain this feeling for many years," the specialist emphasized.

Olga Ulankina, an expert at the Hemotest Laboratory, a gynecologist, said on July 11 that after bathing in a pond, some people may experience unpleasant symptoms: frequent urination, pain, burning and pain. The bathing season itself is not the cause of cystitis. In most cases, inflammation develops due to bacteria entering the urinary tract, most often E. coli.
